Install LibreOffice

  • It is strongly recommended to uninstall older/prior versions of LibreOffice before installing/upgrading to the latest version:
    sudo apt-get remove libreoffice-core
  • Download the latest version of LibreOffice from http://www.libreoffice.org/download/ to your “Downloads” directory
  • Extract (decompress) the .tar.gz archive by right mouse-clicking on it and selecting extract here from the resulting dialog box. (You can delete the .tar.gz file – it is no longer needed
  • Open a Terminal session and: – Change the current directory to the the DEBS folder, e.g.:
    cd ~/Downloads/LibO_3.5.1_Linux_x86_install-deb_en-US/DEBS
    • Finally install LibreOffice:
      sudo dpkg -i *.deb
    • Now install the program shortcuts (desktop integration) by:
      cd desktop-integration
      
      sudo dpkg -i *.deb
  • To install the LibreOffice Help docs, repeat the download; extract; change directory, and install process
