Hamburger Steak with Onions and Gravy
Ingredients
1 to 1-1/4 lbs Ground Beef
1 Egg
1 cup Thinly sliced Onions
1/4 cup Plain Bread Crumbs
1/2 tsp Seasoned Salt
1/2 tsp Garlic Powder
1/2 tsp Onion Powder
1/4 tsp Black Pepper
1 tbsp Worcestershire Sauce
Extra Virgin Olive Oil
1 cup Beef Broth
2 tbsp Dry Sherry Sherry
2 tbsp All Purpose Flour
Seasoned Salt to taste
Directions
In a large bowl, mix together the Ground Beef, Egg, Bread Crumbs, Salt, Garlic and Onion Powders, Black Pepper, and Worcestershire Sauce. Form mixture into 5 to 6 balls, and flatten into patties.
Heat EVOO in a large skillet over medium heat. Fry the Beef Patties in the oil until Beef Patties are nicely browned, about 4 minutes per side. Remove the Beef Patties to a plate and keep warm.
Add the Onions to the skillet and fry until softened and translucent, about 4 to 5 minutes. Sprinkle the Flour over the Onions and dippings in the Skillet. Stir in the Flour with a fork or whisk, scraping bits of Beef off the bottom of the skillet. Gradually mix in the Beef Broth and Sherry. Season with the additional Seasoned Salt and continue to stir over medium heat until the Sauce thickens, about 5 minutes. (You may need to add some more Beef Broth or water if it appears to be too thick.)
Turn heat to low, return the Beef Patties to the skillet, cover and simmer for another 15 minutes.
Serve with Mashed Potatoes, or buttered Egg Noodles.
